The Next Book (2)

I’ve spent the weeks since New Year in getting together the semblance of a book on the Malayan Emergency, using the words and photographs of the men of 1st Suffolk as its backbone, and tonight after some delays, it’s been sent off to my publishers.

It’s been a really treat to go back over the numerous photographs I copied many years back and listen again to the recordings I made of the men I interviewed almost twenty years ago.

The book, which will be predominantly a photo book, will feature some 250 images of the Battalion taken during their service in Malaya between 1949 and 1953, but it will be accompanied by a minimal amount of text telling the chronology of the campaign and the key events that the Battalion achieved.

I hope that it will meet the publishers approval allowing me to proceed with the all important task of selecting the photographs.
